Social Networking Virtual Reality

Before I say anything, I like Facebook. Its a brilliant idea, or maybe, a brilliant execution of an already existing idea. It will be rhetoric to say, but it is now a part of life, of millions of people. I do not have any statistics to prove my next statement but I think 20-25% of users are addicted to it.

Social network has given us the power to project our altered personality into a virtual world. This is just fine, and people have been doing this for many years on various messengers and chat clients, and their is nothing wrong with it. But now what Facebook has done is, the virtual world is pushing hard to get into the real world. This reminds me of Matrix, Mr. Smith a virus from machine world starts controlling actions of a real human being. Friends actually get upset (in real life) when there pics are not commented or there posts are not well received (in virtual world). Also if there farm is not watered, or one of there ducks which escaped is not returned. Pictures are taken with Facebook in mind. Popularity is dictated by comments you get on your posts.

People now have an additional step to get engaged, exchanging rings is not good enough. Couples living in same house comment back and forth. I can site numerous examples like this. But what disturbed me enough to write this article was, I saw that one of my friend who is no more sadly is being given wishes on his birthday. The wishes ranged from normal wishes to lets catch up soon. This is just plain sad. Are these people his friends, well I do not think so. I am so sure next year around when his birthday shows up on there Facebook calender these addicts will go and write a birthday wish again.

Let the reality govern your virtual life, instead of virtual life telling you how to act in real world.
